Narrative Twist

“Revenge”

Her decision had been indicated in an instant, but it had been made after days and nights of anguished deliberation. She had known she would be asked, she had decided what she would answer, and, without the slightest hesitation, she had moved her hand to the right. The man opened the door and out came the lady. Everyone cheered. The priest came out and the man and the woman promptly got married. They had a big celebration with lots of joy and happiness. After the marriage, the king ordered everyone out of the arena to go home. Everyone went home, even the princess. At home, the princess got in bed and went to sleep.

5 years later the princess was going along with her business when all of a sudden the doorbell rang. At the door was the princesses old lover! She opened the door and saw that he was there with the lady he married from the arena.

“Hello!” he said.

“Hi.” said the princess.

“I just wanted to inform you on some good news.” said the man. “My wife and I have moved into a new house!” Said the man.

“Great news!” said the woman, even though on the inside she was madly jealous of him.

“Ok, well that is all I wanted to share with you. I should probably get going anyways, I drove a long drive to get here.” said the man.

“Ok, bye.” said the woman.

“Bye!” said the man.

After the man left, the woman went to her room to think. “Why does he have to get a lover and I don’t!” the woman said. “I should have never picked the woman door for him!” As the woman was thinking she came up with a deliberate plan. She would poison the man and his wife. A few days later she drove over to the man’s house and luckily he wasn’t home. She tried to open the front door but it wouldn’t budge. She went to the back door to check it. There she found that the back door was open just a crack, and it was open just enough to open it. She was lucky that he left his back door open. She snuck into his house and poured some cyanide into the wine. She got out of the car and sped off quickly. When the man and his wife got home, then opened the wine and drank it. They had spit the wine out because it tasted funny, but it was too late. They had already swallowed some of the wine. They dropped to the floor and died.

A couple of days later the king went to go check on the man because he wanted to see how he was doing with his marriage.

“Hello?” the king said as he knocked on the door to the house. No one answered. Getting concerned, he knocked again. “Hello!” he screamed. When no one answered, he busted down the door, and what he found inside was horrible. He found the man and the woman lying on the ground dead. He screamed as he was terrified. He ran off back to his house. The king sent a forensic team to the house to try if they could look for any evidence. There at the house the forensic team found a bottle of cyanide. They thought to themselves if this could be evidence. They checked the bottle and found the princess’s fingerprints! The forensic team told the king about what had happened. When the king  found out it was his daughter he freaked out. He asked her, “Why would you do this!”

“Because I was jealous!” Said the woman.

“That is not a reason to kill someone!” said the man.

“Well I could not take it anymore!” said the woman.

“I am going to convict you for this.” said the king. “I love you but I cannot believe you did this!" Several days later the woman got convicted and had to go to the amphitheater. She was deathly terrified of what door she would pick. The king raised his left hand, and the princess opened the door. Out came a vicious tiger and it started ripping the woman to shreds. Everyone in the area screamed, and the princess died a horrible death, just like the man and the woman she had killed.

Blog for October 27, 2015 - Diary of a Wimpy Kid Hard Luck

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Hard Luck
Author: Jeff Kinney

Prompt: how the conflict drives character development (causes the character to change)

The conflict in this book is how Greg's (the main character) best friend abandons him and he has to find new friends. He turns to a Magic 8 Ball to try to change his fate. The conflict in the story drives the character to change because before Greg's best friend tries to leave him Greg is struggling in middle school, but the only thing he basically has to survive is his best friend.

When Greg's best friend leaves him, Greg is sad and lonely, and tries desperately to fit in. When he can no longer take it, he turns to a Magic 8 Ball to try to change his fate. After Greg uses the magic 8 ball to answer some of his questions about why his best friend left him, the ball answers the questions in a way he had hoped, and it is a bit creepy as the answers seem to be exactly what he wanted them to be. Then he starts using the ball for everything. Eventually the 8 ball leads Greg to solve a problem he had earlier in the book, and then the ball is never talked about again in the rest of the book.

In the End Of the book Greg and his friend make up and become friends again. This shows how the conflict of the story drives the character to change because in the beginning Greg lost his best friend (conflict) and that caused him to change and think and do different things that eventually led to resolving the conflict.

Blog for Week 10/14/15 - Invasion of the Road Weenies

Book: Invasion of the Road Weenies
Author: David Lubar
Prompts
• Is the setting described well enough that can put a picture of it in your mind?
Why or why not?
• What emotions did you feel while you read? Give details from your reading
that made you feel that way.

The book I am reading is Invasion of the Road Weenies. This book is a collection of short stories. The stories are mostly weird, and sometimes scary. These stories are not long, ranging from 3 pages up to 10 pages. I am in the middle of this book currently and I am really enjoying it. The stories are mostly about kids having some sort of problem.

The setting is described very well in these stories and I can see a clear picture of what is going on. I can see the setting very clearly because the author is putting a lot of detail into what he writes. Here is an example from the book: "There was always fog. The world was never clear. Ken couldn't imagine what it would be like to see into the distance---to gaze far away without the ground and rocks and trees growing fainter and fuzzier..." Page 32 (Paragraph 1). This quote shows that the author is talking about the setting very nicely because I can make a picture in my mind of what is happening. The author uses words like "the world was never clear" or "there was always fog" to describe the setting well.

When I read the stories in this book I feel uneasy. In one of the stories it talks about a boy getting dragged into wet cement then drowning in it. As you can imagine you wouldn't feel happy reading this. I felt uneasy because it is creepy to think about someone not being able to breathe under cement. Plus the other stories in the book are equally creepy and they make me feel the same way. Another creepy detail is a story in the book that talks about a mummy sneaking into a girl's house. This makes me feel scared because it is scary thinking that a dead thing could sneak into someone's house.
